Overview
The GHG accounting to determine a CFO is a 2-step process:
- Calculation of GHG emissions
- Definition of GHG reduction actions
This part is about the definition and the implementation of an action plan. Accounting for your emissions makes it possible to identify the sources for which the activity may have room to maneuver in order to reduce its emissions.
The first step is to understand what is a GHG emission reduction action : it is not as easy as it seems! You have indeed to be careful about the support of your top management, the implication of your colleagues, the correct definition of indicators, etc. Your actions will be quick-wins (short term), priority actions (mid-term) and strategic action (long-term) which help your organization in its low-carbon transition.
The second step is to create the necessary space for your action plan. You have to organize the management of you action plan, from animating a technical committee to define criteria for prioritizing actions and assess the first results. Some tools can help you : ADEME’s method for quantifying the impact of your reduction action (userguide downloadable on the right) ; ABC’s GHG management system.
