After Clim'foot : Italy's progress !
The Clim'Foot project has now reached its main goal and Italy is pursuing its endeavours in the calculation of carbon footprint of organisations.
What has Italy done since the end of the Clim’Foot project, in August 2018?
First of all, some progresses have been made on the national database and on the Bilan Carbone Clim’Foot tool. Let's look at it more deeply.
Italy has developed and implementated into the national database 16 new emissions factors (an emission factor is a coefficient which allows to convert activity data into greenhouse gas emissions (for more details click here).
- 14 (related to food and beverage)
- Cookies
- Meat
- Sweet snack
- Salty snack
- Legumes
- Rusks
- Bread
- Fruits
- Dairy products
- Condiments
- Pasta
- Vegetables
- Egg
- Sugar
- 2 (from italian electricity mix 2016)
Thus, the Italian Bilan Carbone Clim’Foot tool has been updated with these new emission factors to allow the accounting of these sources of emissions in the carbon footprint of organisations.
Creiamo PA
The Italian public administration is launching a major programme to improve their environmental footprint.
This project, Creaimo PA, is carried out by the Ministry of the Environment and the Protection of the Territory and the Sea and aims to resolve the critical issues encountered in the management of environmental policies. It is coordinated with the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA) and the Italian minister.
In practice, the public administration has started to calculate their carbon footprint. To help the administration, 5 consultants were trained on the 6th of November 2018 in Rome and on the 18th of February 2019 in Bologna.
Citta Metropolitana of Torino was involved in the “Creiamo PA” and presented the Clim’Foot experiment to other public in a conference in the 3rd of October 2018 in Torino !
The Bilan Carbone Clim'Foot already used, by ARPAE
ARPAE is an organisation of the organisation involved in the Italian voluntary program during the Clim'Foot project. ARPAE is the Regional Agency for Prevention, Environment and Energy of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Its main goals are controlling the state of the environment and supporting the sustainability of human activities, aiming at the protection of human health and territorial competitiveness.
ARPAE has used the updated version of the Italian Bilan Carbone Clim’Foot to calculate the Carbon Footprint of its new office in Ferrara. The next step is to compare the result with the carbon footprint of the previous office in Bologna and try to implement activities to improve their environmental performance. A good exemple of the tool usefulness !
